The Developmental Disabilities Resource Center (DDRC) is a nonprofit private corporation which provides services and supports to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We've built an infrastructure since 1964 that provides quality programs and resources to people and their families in Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Summit counties. Our focus is to offer people positive choice over their lives which results person centered services. "Our mission is to create opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to participate fully in the community."

 

The Residential Counselor position is in the Summit County Residential Services Department (Quality Living Options) and works directly with the people who live in an apartment complex. A Residential Counselor is responsible for the provision of general health and developmental needs of individuals with developmental disabilities. Duties include counseling of individuals with developmental disabilities in personal hygiene, money management, etc. as well as assisting with a clean and home-like environment.

 

Hours of shift: This position includes sleeping at the apartment - Saturday 9am-Monday 5pm + overnights

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of reading, writing and speaking English
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer one-year experience working with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong desire to assist in development of individuals receiving services.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to safely stand, pivot and transfer up to 75 pounds in order to transfer people.
  • Ability to push, pull or carry 10 – 20 pound frequently and 30 – 40 pounds occasionally throughout the shift independently or in a team lift.
  • Ability to drive a 15 passenger van to provide transportation to and from work sites, community connections, medical appointments, etc.
  • Must have and maintain good driving record and provide current driving history at the time of application.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.

Successful applicants must be able to pass pre-placement skill and ability evaluation.
